A Simple Way to Clean the Microwave

Hello! Hello!  It's been a very busy week here in Lewisville.  We've had this and that and that and this.  You know what it's like with kids, pets, classes, lessons...this and that.  It's the mom life, my life, and I'm blessed to be part of this show!

So this post is coming out a little later in the day, but I promised you I'd give you the scoop on a simple way to clean the microwave. Yesterday, I gave you the scoop on how to clean your oven with my own version of a non-toxic oven cleaner.  Today's cleaning tip is also non-toxic, as in not harmful for you or your family.   I don't remember where I first learned, read, or heard about this method of cleaning the microwave, but I've been doing it for years.  It works wonderfully and it's super simple.

Most of my cleaners for Lewisville are home made.  I really started using home made cleaners because they're so much cheaper than store-bought brands and they work so much better.  Since starting to clean with this method, I've discovered how much better they are for you.  There are no skin irritations, itching, red eyes, headaches from fumes, or hormones going crazy.   I use mainly vinegar, baking soda, original blue Dawn dish soap, hydrogen peroxide, and occasionally rubbing alcohol (window cleaning).

I've talked about making your own laundry detergent, stain remover, and bath and shower cleaner.  Today, we'll talk about getting the microwave clean.  I've gone back and forth about using the microwave.  I know it's not a "healthy" way to warm up left overs, but we haven't made the final leap of getting rid of it yet.  Because of that, it can get to looking like this...again, please don't judge.  Remember, kids, pets....busy mom, little time to clean.

The food is caked on and can't be just wiped off, even with a spray cleaner.  So here's a simple way to get it all clean in less than 5 minutes.  All you'll need is 1 cup of vinegar.

Put your vinegar in a glass bowl or glass cup (never, ever put plastic in a microwave) and set it for 4-5 minutes.  I have a smaller microwave, so I set mine for 4 minutes.

When your time is completed, open the door but WARNING, the smell is intense so stand back.  Grab some white paper towels and start wiping down the microwave.  All that gunk comes off easily with a simple wipe.

The vinegar smell evaporates pretty quickly.....or maybe I've just gotten used to the smell.  Anyways, the microwave is clean and it was super simple to get it there.

I use the cup of warm vinegar to make my bath and shower cleaner so nothing goes to waste.  That's it; that's my secret to a clean microwave.

Have a great weekend everyone!
Blessings,
Lisa

  6. Cleaning the microwave can be as easy as wiping down all the splat marks, not scrubbing them like Cinderella. This is what to do. you will need the secret ingredient: good old stilled white vinegar.
